I finally have more kitchen pictures to share and it feels like things are finally starting to come together with this renovation. A couple of weeks ago, a local company, Granite Transformations, came in to reface the existing cabinets and counter top. They also faced the new cabinets that I built around the stove so that everything looks cohesive.
Before they arrived, I had to clear out everything from the existing cabinets.
And then on Day 1, the excitement began!
I was SOOOO happy to see my old sink go. It wasn't bad but it was small, shallow, and had seen better days.
By the end of Day 1, the counters were refinished with granite and the new (more functional) sink was installed.
The refacing was started on the two small cabinets but just barely.
By the end of Day 2, the new faucet was installed and the refacing was well underway. At this point, I was seriously questioning my choice of white for the cabinets. When I selected it, I was thinking it would be the brightest and cleanest option for such a small space. After questioning my original decision, I decided that it wasn't worth the effort because there was no going back now.
And by the end of Day 3, it all came together with cabinet doors, new drawers, and hardware. I have to admit that once I saw the finished product, I stopped questioning my decision about white cabinets.
The hardware is one of my favorite things. It originally came from Lowe's but is no longer available through them. When I had to find additional pieces to accommodate the two new cabinets around the stove, I was concerned because this style seemed to be discontinued. But Amazon saved the day! I managed to find both the drawer pulls and the cabinet knobs still available.
And finally, the cabinet boxes that I built from scratch actually look like they belong in the space.

The stove has been moved back into place and the inside of the old cabinets are getting a new coat of bright white paint. It's still a work in progress...I still have flooring, backsplash, and electrical to take care of...but I felt like this was a huge step forward in the kitchen upgrade and I am thoroughly enjoying the new space.
Have you ever done a renovation that you questioned while it was in process but where everything came together in the end? I would love to hear about your experience!
Absolutely beautiful Alicia!!!! Love the cupboards & esp. the hardware. & you built some cabinets from scratch!!!! Wow - you are amazing. What an amazing job!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda! I am in love with the hardware too. The entire process has been a lot of fun!
DeleteIt looks very beautiful so far!! Refacing cupboards lets you keep the old, functional, well-built interior. By today's standards, you will have much better cabinetry than if you had bought new ones. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marilynn! It was a tough decision and at one point, I almost went the way of tearing out the old and putting in completely new cabinets. I am so glad that I didn't though!
